Junior members battled for a chance at the National Holstein Dairy Bowl Championship! Finals will be held tomorrow morning, before the National Junior Forum.

Tomorrow will be an exciting day for Juniors all around, as results from many of the week's contests, including the coveted Distinguished Junior Member finalists, will be announced. Stay tuned for complete results.

Meanwhile, Holstein Association USA's Annual Meeting got off to a high-energy start in an Early Bird session with Stan Erwine of Dairy Management Inc., who talked about how, working together, we can all help build consumer confidence in milk and in the dairy industry.

"Holstein Genomics Today," a panel about Holstein genetics from the viewpoint of several experts who work with genomics everyday, illuminated many of the issues people are talking about these days. Dan Weigel, Michael Bishop, Chuck Ripp, and Nate Zwald made up the panel.

The convention winds up Friday, with the National Junior Forum, the National Holstein Women's Scholarship Organization annual meeting. The Convention Banquet wraps things up beautifully, with announcement of the Distinguished Young Holstein Breeder, the Elite Breeder, and Distinguished Leadership awards.

Host Day highlights: Wednesday was National Convention Host Day, and kudos to our hosts, the Illinois Holstein Association, for putting together a fun-filled and interesting day of tours to the farms of local Holstein breeders. Lindale Holsteins, Team Holsteins, and Luck-E Holsteins were gracious hosts to several hundred people.

There were also several great field trips to sites in Chicago, including the Magic Waters Waterpark and the Chicago Lakefront Museum's Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum. No one had an excuse for being bored!

Closing out the day was the much-anticipated National Convention Sale where several lots of top-quality Registered Holsteins were sold, including a calf donated by Bob and Kaye Miller to the Holstein Foundation, which sold for $3,000.

Tomorrow, Junior Holstein members from across the country fire up for the National Dairy Bowl, and Holstein Association USA's 130th Annual Meeting gets underway. We'll update you with highlights tomorrow.
